I am working in the banking industry for 6 years and within this time period I have experienced different fields of the business. First, I started to my career in Credit Cards Marketing Department. I used to participate in various parts of the department as a junior employee in order to understand the dynamics of the market and customers. There were millions of credit card users and these customers were producing billions of transactions on a daily basis and each transaction was being logged in data tables. That was the first time that I became aware of the presence of big data, beyond it being a buzzword. At the same time, I had a very limitied access to the datamart via SAP Business Objects and I was preaparing some basic analysis by manipulating the raw data for marketing purposes. In the course of my career, I worked in different banks and different fields and I observed that each department I worked in or collaborated with became more and more dependent on data and data analysis over time. Now, I am working in Business Development and Product Management Department in Retail Banking and I am involved in several projects to create better products and seamless processes for customer. Vast majority of these projects are directly related to usage and analysis of the data such as building Next Best Action models with machine learning with a foreign partner. Throughout these projects, I had the chance to meet data scientists, data analysts and data science concepts. That interaction was one of the most important factors which triggered me to be more data driven. Besides, my daily routine already involves lots of data analysis to decide on things. I am an active user of SAS, creating queries by combining numerous tables, trying to extract meaningful insights from data. This is another important factor for my application because I find spending time with data enjoyable. With the help of this program, I am planning to proceed to the next steps in terms of data analytics and shape my career accordingly.
