Hi! I am Umut Mete Saka, currently a senior student at Boğaziçi University Industrial Engineering Department. My college life started after I had graduated at Kadıköy Anadolu Lisesi in 2016 with Boun EE department. However I realized I have no interest on the subjects and in 2018 I transferred to Boun IE. Now after 2 years, I can say that, this was a perfect decision.
I am a tango dancer and instructor for more than 3 years, I am the vice president of Boğaziçi University Dance Club and dancing was one of the biggest parts of my life before our lovely virus Corona.
I had the opportunity to feel the air in the business environment three times. My first internship was at a production plant at Tekirdağ. It was for 2 months and I can say that I perfectly learn how to assembly power supplies.
My second internship was at Acıbadem Healthcare Group. I was in the planning and business development directorate for 6 months. This was my 101 course to corporate life where I learned the deepest secrets of the corporate life. (VLOOKUP)
And Finally I am continuing my third internship at QNB Finansbank. Only a few weeks have passed so it is to soon to say what I learned. But I can say that I have a nice team with nice people!

I want to learn R to understand, visualize and implement data primarily. Everything we experience in life is now recorded and huge piles of data is generated about people and understanding and using this data is the new power. Now it is not possible to obtain good results from a data without computation and R gives us numerous tools to clean, implement and interpret the data.
For instance, I am working in marketing department and collecting and interpreting the data of our current and prospective clients can lead us to come up with the optimal strategies and empower our growth. Machine learning algorithms, clustering, trees can easily be implemented over customer data and leads us to strategies. And R lets us run these algorithms within.
Consequently R has a wide area of use and I want to be strong, using this tool for my further business, education, research and interests.
In last decades the expanding production in the world moved to low cost countries. The widespread of this production creates its enlarged supply chain and the enlargement of the distances caused more carbon emission. To prevent this establishing small production facilities closer to the final customer is an option but it seems complex to control.
In the video Icaro Agostino explains a conceptual model using R for dynamic allocation of production orders in distributed manifacturing systems. This model uses a open street map API to calculate travel time, calculates and forecasts queue, production and setup times and minimizes the total time to show the optimal formula.
Their algorithm uses dplyr, jsonlite, httr, forecast and plumber libraries.
Algorithmic trading is used by big investors in capital markets to gain speed, eradicate human emotions and avoid mistakes in trading. With R it is possible to do algorithmic trading without spending millions on your software.
In This Link there is an implementation of algorithmic trading with R. The algorithm reads e-mails, collect specified data and insert the order to the brokerage interface with an API.
Health decision sciences (HDS) is the field of study that involves improving the quality of decisions in the presence of uncertainty in the healthcare setting. HDS has the goal to allocate limited healthcare resources optimally. Since these health care decisions have substantial consequences it is important to communicate the uncertainties and trade-offs related to these decisions with all health-care professionals and (health) policy makers. HDS combines information from multiple disciplines, like epidemiology, health economics, biostatistics and computer science. HDS estimates the consequences of all the actions considered.
The main algorithms used are decision trees, Markov models, and microsimulation and R lets us to implement these algoritms.
